lunch,
we hopped on the bus to head over to the beach. When we got there, we
dismounted and had more Ecuadorian ice cream (Coquieros). At the beach, we saw
boobies, many of us for the first time… Blue-footed Boobies, that is! We played
Frisbee, hackysack, and watched the seals waddling around on the sand.
We stayed there for about an hour and a half before heading back to the hotel. On the boat ride back, we experienced some mild turbulence and eventually a slight storm. Our brave crew of sailors/students endured (slept through) the storm and made it through unscathed. In fact, we had no vomit incidents, an uncommon occurrence for us.
So much for no technology and having to talk to eachother!
Back at the hotel, we hung out with friends, began preparing for our departure on Monday, and played cards until dinner. At 7:30 we transitioned into the dining hall, where we had a dinner of rice, vegetables, fried potatoes, a choice of chicken or fish, and a dessert of flan. After dinner, we once again walked around town, buying souvenirs and food. Our return time was for 11:00PM, but being the responsible (and exhausted) students that we are, we decided to head back to the hotel by 10:00 PM. This made the chaperones quite happy as well as they were also ready for bed! Our bedtime was 11:15, and everybody made sure to be packed for our early journey tomorrow back to Quito!
We have had an amazing time in the Galapagos Islands, but are looking forward to returning to Quito, and soon, the US. To our fellow students, we hope that you had a great day of school on Monday.
So delighted for you that you are getting to see wonderful new things (!)... and even sometimes avoid vomit incidents and technology and therefore really bond with one another. Hilarious and gorgeous and so exciting. See you so soon! Can't wait to hear all the details filled in then!
